Initial consultations with our caring physicians can be expected to last 1 to 2 hours in duration. Phase I: Cancer Treatment Planning and Verification
During this phase, our physicians and radiology team will then review the plan of treatment, target the dosage and individualize therapy for the patient. IGRT Radiation Therapy is produced by a medical linear accelerator and aimed directly at cancer cells. During this phase, placement and positioning of the Dynamic Targeting® IGRT will be mapped out. Patients may be treated for an approximation of 15 minutes every day of the week for the duration of anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks.
Phase II: Cancer Therapy DeliveryTumors have the tendency to move, or shift position, due to simple things such as breathing, bowel movements or weight loss. With IGRT, we are able to scan and record imagery that will show exactly how the tumor is positioned before every treatment to increase accuracy! Throughout your IGRT treatment, we will monitor and adapt to changes, such as shrinkage or expansion, shape changes and variations from the surrounding tissues and organs. Post-Treatment: Quality AssuranceFollow-up sessions will include further scanning/imaging to measure the effects of the radiation on the cancerous or tumorous area.
